Organisms in Micorcommunities

Organisms in Microcommunities

Organisms

Volvox-
Motile, Producer, Autotrophic

Spirostotum-

Motile, Producer, Autotrophic

Spirogyra-

Motile, Producer, Heterotrophic

Amoeba-
Sessile, Producer, Autotrophic

Oscillatoria-
Motile, Producer, Autotroph

Definitions
Motile- Organisms that move about
Sessile- Organisms that don't move
Producer- Organisms that make their own food
Consumer- Organisms that rely on other organisms to be their food
Autotroph- Organisms that make their own food
Heterotroph- Organisms that rely on other organisms to be their food

Procedure
First, we got out our microscopes. Then, we got a slide and put pond water on it. We examined it underneath the microscope. When we found three organisms, we picked three others and labeled all of them as motile or sessile, producers or consumers, and autotrophs or heterotrophs.

Questions
1. Microorgansisms can be a food source for other animals in a freshwater community. They will also help the decompositon process by feeding on dead and decaying organisms.
2.

3. A microorganism is an organism too small to be seen by the naked eye. A micro-community is a group of microorganisms living together in an area.
